About the position

The Instructional Designer will primarily work remotely but will be required to travel 1 to 2 times quarterly to locations such as Auburn, Winters, Livermore, or the Sierra region for site visits. Overnight stays may be necessary during these visits. The position involves designing and developing training materials for apprenticeships in the Power Generation utilities industry, including hydro, solar, and battery storage. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to ensure effective training delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop instructor-led and on-the-job training for apprenticeships in the Power Generation utilities industry including hydro, solar, and battery storage.
  • Leverage and apply established instructional design methodologies to assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.
  • Develop learning materials for technical content, including hands-on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other instructional media.
  • Perform a detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system for which training will be developed.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.
  • Define learning objectives, and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs and to meet the constraints of the learning environment.
  • Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.
  • Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts appropriate for the target audience.
  • Participate in milestone meetings with subject matter experts, including task analysis, alpha, beta, and train the trainer.
  • Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback.
  • Self-manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables.
  • Proactively communicate issues and risks.

Requirements

  • 3+ years' experience developing instructor-led training and on-the-job tasks for technical skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design and methodologies.
  • Proven experience performing task analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and deliver against multiple competing deadlines, as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing technical training on machining, solar technician, SCADA, or hydro operations.
  • Experience with QuestionMark, Author-It or Storyline.
  • Client's Academy experience a plus.
