About the position

The Instructional Designer position at the University of California Office of the President is a two-year contract role focused on updating and enhancing online training courses to meet current accessibility standards. The designer will work independently and collaboratively with content owners and subject matter experts to create engaging and accessible eLearning content, ensuring compliance with federal requirements and university standards. This role involves utilizing various instructional design tools and technologies to develop high-quality digital learning experiences for a diverse audience.

Responsibilities

  • Apply professional instructional design and technology skills to consult with subject matter experts, map learning objectives/outcomes, and create/update accessible and complex online courses that achieve intended results.
  • Test products for functionality, user experience, and accessibility, documenting results and validating changes made based on testing results.
  • Provide program management and act as communication liaison with outside online course development vendors, communicating testing results and validating remediation of issues found during internal testing.
  • Help lead the creative execution of additional assets/programs as needed, conceptualizing online creative experiences and effectively communicating vision to team members and stakeholders.
  • Lead or manage the creation of concepts, storyboards, artwork, and layout for sites and other online projects based on discovery meetings and input from stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in instructional design and technology.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, learning outcomes, and assessment design.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with collaboration and negotiation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with and ability to apply and evaluate accessibility principles, particularly WCAG 2.1 AA for digital content.
  • Experience with instructional design authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise.
  • Experience with video editing tools like Camtasia and Adobe Premiere.
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS and screen reader software like NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver.
