About the position

The Instructional Designer position at Leidos is a critical role within the Security Enterprise Solution Operation, focusing on enhancing aviation security training programs. This position requires a blend of subject matter expertise and strong communication skills to effectively support the development and evaluation of training offerings related to aviation security equipment. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for redesigning instructor-led training (ILT) courses to optimize learning experiences by integrating digital solutions and following the ADDIE model. This includes consulting with trainers and management to suggest improvements and develop engaging digital content for operator and maintenance training programs. In this role, the Instructional Designer will create a variety of multimedia training materials, including storyboards, e-learning modules, videos, webinars, and micro-learning content. They will also be tasked with developing digital recertification training packages from existing ILT materials and ensuring that all training assessments are formatted for Learning Management System (LMS) readiness. Collaboration is key, as the designer will interface with various departments, including production, engineering, and technical support, to ensure that the training content is relevant and up-to-date. The position also involves delivering network training globally and cross-training others to meet the demands of the aviation sector. The Instructional Designer will maintain a partnership with the Engineering team to capture the latest configurations and capabilities, ensuring that all training materials reflect current practices. Additionally, they will audit existing training courses and provide management with suggestions for enhancements, ensuring that the training delivered is effective and meets the needs of the audience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and redesign ILT courses/courseware to optimize learning by integrating digital solutions into our offerings.
  • Follow the ADDIE model for instructional design.
  • Consult with trainers and management on suggested changes and how to optimize training programs.
  • Develop engaging digital content for operator and maintenance training programs.
  • Integrate storyboards, e-learning, videos, webinars, virtual classrooms, micro-learning modules, and other multimedia formats into training offerings.
  • Develop digital recertification training packages from existing ILT materials.
  • Analyze, update, and refine existing online content.
  • Reformat and digitize training tests/assessments to be LMS ready.
  • Interface with all departments, including production, engineering, software developers, technical trainers, technical support staff, and management to ensure relevant content development.
  • Develop training materials for aviation network solutions like ProSight for On-Prem and Enterprise solutions.
  • Deliver network training globally and cross-train others to support global demand.
  • Maintain partnership with Engineering to ensure the latest configurations and capabilities are captured and documented.
  • Optimize courseware to include digital solutions.
  • Audit P&B training courses and provide suggestions for change to management.
  • Collaborate with the LMS administrator to manage and facilitate all digital instructional materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Technical field strongly preferred; equivalent education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on industry-related aviation products.
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly related work experience within technical training and development.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of publishing software and associated LMS ready tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all departments, including production, engineering, software developers, technical trainers, technical support staff, and all levels of management.
  • Ability to deliver operator and technical training courses to customers.
