About the position

The Instructional Designer (ID) plays a crucial role within the Distance Education team at Austin Peay State University, working directly under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Instructional Design. This position is essential for facilitating course review processes and evaluating online course components to ensure they meet established quality standards and accessibility requirements. The ID is responsible for coordinating training and professional development opportunities for faculty, aimed at enhancing the quality of online courses and ensuring that best practices are consistently applied in online course offerings. In addition to these responsibilities, the ID will collaborate closely with other members of the instructional design team to manage various instructional design projects, oversee course review processes, and collect relevant data. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders is vital for promoting collaboration and accountability within the team. The ID will also stay updated on emerging trends in instructional design and technology, ensuring that the university remains at the forefront of educational innovation. This position requires a proactive approach to supporting faculty members in effective instructional design practices and the integration of instructional technology tools. The ID will conduct thorough reviews of online and hybrid courses, providing constructive feedback to faculty to help them meet quality standards. Furthermore, the ID will educate and assist university stakeholders in ensuring that digital course materials and multimedia projects comply with current accessibility standards and regulations, thereby supporting the university's commitment to inclusive education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to faculty members on effective instructional design practices and instructional technology tools.
  • Conduct thorough online/hybrid course reviews to provide faculty feedback and assistance in meeting quality standards.
  • Facilitate course review processes and monitor data tracking.
  • Manage instructional design projects using a ticketing system.
  • Educate and assist university stakeholders to ensure digital course materials, multimedia projects, and instructional technology are compliant with current accessibility standards and regulations.
  • Assist the university in remaining in compliance with Distance Education regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with other Distance Education team members to ensure instructional technology settings have optimal functionality and usability for users.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in instructional design and technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Experience designing and/or teaching online courses;
  • Experience assisting faculty with instructional technology integration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and other instructional technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages while meeting deadlines and quality standards
