About the position

The Instructional Designer at the University of Southern Indiana will collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance online teaching and learning experiences. This role involves course development consultation, professional development workshops, and the integration of instructional technologies to improve student learning outcomes. The designer will also conduct research on emerging technologies and manage course reviews to ensure quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with faculty members and academic departments to conceptualize, plan, design, develop, implement, and review online courses.
  • Apply knowledge of pedagogical strategies and instructional design principles to improve teaching and learning in course designs.
  • Collaborate with faculty to identify digital assets and incorporate multimedia and video components into online courses.
  • Assist faculty with the selection and incorporation of multimedia and instructional technology to meet Quality Matters standards.
  • Design and develop engaging online learning objects and courses, including text, graphics, interactions, and software simulations.
  • Provide online teaching consultation by understanding faculty's teaching style and course learning objectives.
  • Provide expertise in emerging and innovative online learning tools and methodologies.
  • Assist with coordination and submission of course reviews to Quality Matters.
  • Produce online teaching resources, instructional materials, eLearning modules, and professional development workshops.
  • Facilitate professional development seminars and workshops demonstrating effective uses of instructional technologies.
  • Provide guidance to student staff as needed.
  • Assist with departmental event planning and scheduling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, education, or related field.
  • Six months related experience with multimedia authoring tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in a team environment developing instructional learning materials and user support services.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design methods and practices, quality online course development, and delivery.
  • Familiarity with online curriculum components and course development processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard Learn, Canvas, or Desire to Learn.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality.
  • Familiarity with web conferencing tools like Adobe Connect, Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with the Quality Matters rubric.
  • Ability to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Familiarity with peer review process.
  • Experience with Blackboard Ultra.
