The Instructional Designer at the University of Texas at El Paso is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing online coursework in collaboration with university instructors. This role involves providing consultation and pedagogical support to faculty, managing multimedia content, and participating in various committees that support the Extended University. The position allows for a significant degree of independence and initiative while working under supervision. Currently, the role is structured to be 60 percent remote, allowing for three days of remote work and two days on campus. Key responsibilities include working closely with instructors to create online course content that effectively balances subject matter, pedagogical best practices, and technology requirements. The Instructional Designer will provide both practical and theoretical advice to faculty regarding the design, production, management, and assessment of instructional materials. This includes designing and implementing assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of online and hybrid courses, advising on accessibility, engagement, and assessment strategies, and planning and delivering online training sessions for faculty and staff. The role also requires the design of multimedia course materials using graphic design software, promoting Universal Design principles, and ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508. Timely completion and delivery of instructional design projects are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. The Instructional Designer will also engage in research on the latest instructional theories, online best practices, and emerging technologies, collaborating with staff to develop instructional tools and experiences. Exceptional customer service to faculty, staff, and external partners is a critical aspect of this position, along with a commitment to teamwork and flexibility.
