About the position

The Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering in-house training for end-users of office productivity software and other proprietary applications. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to assess learning needs, create training materials, and facilitate training sessions to enhance user competence and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate training for application implementation, upgrades, and changes.
  • Serve as a liaison between end users, project team members, and other resources.
  • Use storyboarding and media tools to produce high-level designs for course development.
  • Develop content through research and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Participate in project teams to identify training plans.
  • Assess learning needs of staff to improve performance.
  • Provide ad hoc training for complex tasks or problems.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and IT partners.
  • Research subject matter literature to establish training foundations.
  • Design, write, update, and test training curriculum for various end-user roles.
  • Deliver structured content in classroom settings or through electronic media.
  • Build and maintain the master training environment.
  • Evaluate vendor instructional materials for purchase.
  • Manage work plans and project steps to meet timelines and milestones.
  • Locate and arrange training facilities and speakers.
  • Coordinate training needs assessments for new software releases.
  • Instruct individuals or groups in various subject areas.
  • Train and supervise Credentialed Trainers and Super Users.
  • Provide technical training for specialized business applications.
  • Analyze workflows and technical issues to design instructional content.
  • Participate in evaluation and testing of new module releases.
  • Maintain training materials and provide status updates.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training and consult with project managers.
  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Instructional Design, Communications, Management, Business, or related field.
  • Two years of experience designing and delivering training curriculum for software systems or working with software applications.
  • A Master's degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Four years of experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree if relevant experience is demonstrated.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and practices.
  • Experience with multimedia equipment and training aids.
  • Familiarity with instructional design models like ADDIE.
