About the position

The Instructional Designer in Financial Services Training and Development at the University of Utah is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing high-quality training programs focused on budgeting, purchasing, and travel systems. This role requires collaboration with subject-matter experts and stakeholders to create engaging and accessible learning materials. The position is part of a larger training team and emphasizes strong writing, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts needs assessments to identify learning gaps and performance goals.
  • Manages course development process in coordination with multiple team members to meet course launch deadlines.
  • Designs detailed course outlines, storyboards, and facilitator guides for online and instructor-led training.
  • Consults with members of the training team, stakeholders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and system end users to inform important aspects of training, including target audience, learning objectives, course content, and assessment.
  • Creates learning materials, such as eLearning courses, slide decks, written materials, etc.
  • Uses authoring tools to develop online training, such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Vyond Animation Software, and Camtasia.
  • Develops and implements evaluation techniques to measure the effectiveness of course content, materials, and overall learning experience.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Associate Director of Training and Development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Expertise in content research, instructional design and delivery methods, and experience delivering training to high-level leaders.
