About the position

The Instructional Designer (ID) plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience at Lourdes University by ensuring that pedagogical best practices are implemented across various course modalities. This full-time, in-person position involves collaborating closely with faculty to develop and revise courses that are offered in-person, hybrid, and online formats, including self-paced online learning. The ID will support faculty in navigating the Learning Management System (LMS), specifically Canvas, and assist with tasks such as course copying, creating course shells, and managing shared content. In addition to technical support, the ID will design and facilitate workshops aimed at improving faculty skills in instructional design and technology use. This includes collecting and analyzing data regarding faculty technology usage and support needs, and reporting findings to relevant university stakeholders. The ID will work with faculty from diverse disciplines to transform traditional course elements into effective eLearning solutions that leverage technology while ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. The role also involves creating asynchronous instructional tools, such as instructional guides and web pages, to aid faculty in developing their technical skills. The Instructional Designer will promote and support the development of eLearning initiatives that align with the vision of Lourdes University and its faculty, as well as the information technology staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support faculty with LMS (Canvas) needs, such as course copy, course shells, and common shared content.
  • Design and run technical skill and instructional design workshops for faculty.
  • Collect and analyze data about faculty technology use and support needs, reporting information as required to internal University constituencies.
  • Work with faculty across a variety of disciplines to convert desired traditional elements of courses into pedagogically sound eLearning solutions that effectively leverage technology.
  • Ensure that courses in all modalities are in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
  • Design asynchronous instructional tools (instructional guides, web pages, etc.) to help faculty develop technical skills.
  • Promote and support the development of eLearning initiatives with a vision consistent with that of Lourdes faculty and information technology staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design/technology or related field required; Master's preferred.
  • Strong pedagogical background in eLearning, through formal training in instructional design (or related field), experience in the instructional design/technology field, or some combination of both.
  • Competency-Based Education program experience preferred.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and administer effective group training workshops and to work individually with faculty on a variety of projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and educate faculty who have different levels of technical proficiency.
  • Experience with Quality Matters.
  • Programming and design skill in a wide range of applications: programming and design, course management software (Canvas experience preferred), interactive media programs, audio/video digitizing and editing applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours as needed.
  • High degree of professional integrity.
