About the position

The Instructional Designer at Brigham Young University (BYU) is responsible for designing and managing innovative online courses aimed at both domestic and international students. This role involves collaborating with instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs) to create course outlines, learning outcomes, and assessment plans, while ensuring compliance with Independent Study standards. The position also includes administrative duties to maintain high-quality courses, such as reviewing course content and supervising instructional design assistants. The work environment is fast-paced and collaborative, focused on benefiting the world through education.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with instructors and SMEs to create course outlines, learning outcomes, and assessment plans.
  • Manage and monitor project budgets, timelines, and quality in coordination with the Team Supervisor and stakeholders.
  • Build and design learning activities and course content in the LMS using design tools and interactives.
  • Respond to course review feedback to ensure a well-organized course.
  • Manage and train student instructional design assistants or other third-party help.
  • Project manage the course design workflow from the course outline phase to completion.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with other instructional designers, instructors, SMEs, and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field.
  • One or more years of full-time direct work experience in course design and production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or a closely related field.
  • Three or more years of work experience in course design and production.
  • Experience in designing online high school or university courses.
