About the position

The Instructional Designer for the Distance Education Department and Teaching and Learning Center at Jackson State Community College is responsible for designing and developing engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound materials for online learning. This role focuses on enhancing student retention through effective instructional design and support for faculty in course development and the use of educational technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design interactive, accessible, and student-centered instructional materials for fully online learning courses.
• Provide course development support to faculty.
• Conduct workshops and one-on-one training on curriculum design for faculty.
• Assist in improving the quality of JSCC's online program to meet SACS standards.
• Develop rubrics in consultation with Deans to track adherence to academic standards and course competencies in online courses.
• Identify, monitor, and track at-risk online students' progress through the course management system.
• Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of student retention data.
• Prepare reports as requested for JSCC, TBR, and/or SACS.
• Serve on committees as needed/requested.
• Assume responsibility for other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Master's degree
• 1-2 years instructional design/development experience
• Online teaching experience

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree with specialization in Instructional Design, Instruction and Curriculum Design, Instructional Technology, or related field
• 1-2 years higher education instructional design/development experience
