About the position

Hensel Phelps is seeking an experienced Instructional Designer to join our team. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing educational and learning materials tailored for both online and classroom settings. This role is crucial in supporting Hensel Phelps' learning objectives and ensuring that our training programs are effective and engaging. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in instructional design, with a minimum of five years of experience in the field. A degree in Instructional Design, Communication, Education, or a related field is required. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with various teams, including corporate offices, regional offices, and job site staff, to execute strategies that promote the company's overall strategic learning initiatives. The position requires the ability to develop innovative solutions to training challenges through the advanced use of technology. The Instructional Designer will remain up-to-date with emerging technologies that enhance learning and will be responsible for testing and learning new technologies quickly and autonomously. This role involves coordinating with subject matter experts to design and develop quality learning content, performance support aids, practice tests, online tutorials, and other materials needed to meet identified needs. The Instructional Designer will also recommend changes to existing courses to improve learner outcomes and assist with seminars and large corporate trainings/meetings. In addition to technical skills, the Instructional Designer must possess strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and managing multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is the ability to work independently and self-direct. A passion for learning and development, along with expertise in designing content focused on leadership and interpersonal skills, is highly valued in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement educational and learning materials for online and classroom settings.
  • Collaborate effectively across functional teams to execute strategies that promote the company's learning initiatives.
  • Develop innovative solutions to training challenges through advanced use of technology.
  • Remain up-to-date with emerging technologies that enhance learning.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to design and develop quality learning content and performance support aids.
  • Recommend changes to existing courses to improve learner outcomes.
  • Assist with seminars and large corporate trainings/meetings.
  • Organize and manage learning content using mobile training applications and an internal learning platform.
  • Ensure a consistent standard of training by focusing on quality control and set standards of excellence.

Requirements

  • Degree in Instructional Design, Communication, Education, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years prior experience in instructional design.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Experience developing storyboards, job aids, online tutorials, assessments, and print-based materials.
  • Visual/graphic design skills to enhance learning content.
  • Broad knowledge in instructional technology applications.
  • Audio and video creation and editing experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and theory.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels of an organization.
  • Project management skills including planning, scheduling, and time management.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Passion for learning and development.
