About the position

The Instructional Designer at Keiser University plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of online education by collaborating closely with faculty and team members. Reporting directly to the Director of Instructional Design, this position is responsible for guiding the design, development, production, and evaluation of engaging and innovative online courses. The Instructional Designer will consult with academic staff to revise existing online courses and create new ones, leveraging technology to deliver exceptional learning experiences that meet institutional standards. In this role, the Instructional Designer will conceptualize and storyboard interactive, web-based learning objects, integrating these components into the Blackboard Learning Management System. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with faculty members to ensure that course designs align with learning outcomes and accreditation requirements. The position requires a strong commitment to quality standards and service, as well as an awareness of accessibility issues and the use of assistive technologies in course design. The Instructional Designer will also utilize data and feedback to guide course revisions and continuously improve learning experiences. This includes providing support for the Blackboard environment and coordinating technical issues with Blackboard support and other technical advisors. The role demands the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changes and solving problems proactively and creatively. A passion for creating and improving online learning is essential, along with a curiosity about new tools and techniques for engaging learners and demonstrating outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with academics to design objective-aligned and engaging learning experiences and authentic assessments that encourage critical thinking skills and skill application.
  • Conceptualize and storyboard engaging interactive learning objects that promote active learning.
  • Provide support for Blackboard environment and integrated online systems.
  • Coordinate technical issues with Blackboard support, service tickets, schedule updates, and work with other technical advisors and vendors related to the LMS.
  • Use data and feedback to guide course revision and the continual improvement of learning experiences.
  • Design quality online learning experiences and implement gamification strategies.
  • Evaluate learner outcomes and their impact on curriculum design.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in an IT-related field such as instructional design, computer science, multimedia, or a related field of study.
  • 2+ years in instructional design consultation, preferably with academics in higher education settings.
  • 2+ years creating gamification course content.
  • 3-5 years of experience in learning design, academic technology, product development or related discipline, generating innovative online learning experiences and authentic assessments.
  • Significant experience working with learning outcomes for accreditation purposes.
  • Familiarity with building course materials into learning management systems and utilizing the best online educational tools to promote student goal mastery.
  • 1+ years creating AR/VR course content.
  • Experience conducting training sessions for both small and large groups.
  • Experience working with simulations, games and other multimedia content.

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education online teaching experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
