Penn State's School of Graduate and Professional Studies is seeking an Instructional Designer to join our expanding online learning design team. This remote position allows for flexibility and does not require relocation to the Penn State Great Valley Campus. The Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with faculty to design and develop online courses, acting as a lead project manager while utilizing a variety of technology-enhanced systems to create content suitable for multiple delivery modes. A strong understanding of pedagogical principles, instructional systems theory, and the application of both existing and emerging educational technologies is essential. The candidate must possess a comprehensive understanding of instructional design issues and best practices related to teaching and learning across all course delivery modes. Experience with learning management systems, particularly Canvas, as well as multimedia development processes, accessibility standards, and copyright requirements is crucial. The ability to manage the scope, timeline, and deliverables of multiple concurrent projects is necessary, along with strong communication, collaboration, time management, troubleshooting, and teamwork skills. The instructional designer will utilize the team's project management system, adhere to standard processes, and contribute to the ongoing improvement and documentation of the team's procedures. Proficiency in advanced features of tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Speechify, and other Web 2.0 tools is expected. Candidates should hold a Master's Degree and have at least 1 year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience includes teaching and instructional design in educational settings. A working knowledge of Canvas or similar LMS is required, along with demonstrated collaboration and problem-solving skills. The ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships is also essential. Familiarity with the integration of educational technology, including immersive experiences, and knowledge of Universal Design for Learning is preferred.
