About the position

The Instructional Designer position at Northeastern State University (NSU) is a full-time role focused on the development and delivery of training and consultation related to course design, particularly in online and blended learning environments. This position plays a crucial role in supporting faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of instructional technologies and pedagogical best practices. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing and delivering both face-to-face and online training sessions that cover various instructional technology tools and methodologies. In this role, the Instructional Designer will provide comprehensive support to faculty and staff in creating content-specific instructional modules, multimedia components, and instructional materials tailored for both distance and on-campus learning. This includes assisting with the use of web conferencing, video conferencing, and other online communication tools to enhance the learning experience. The position also involves developing training content related to Blackboard and other instructional technologies, resolving help calls related to these technologies, and conducting research on effective online and blended teaching strategies. The Instructional Designer will conduct needs assessments and peer reviews at both the course and program levels, ensuring that the instructional materials meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness. Additionally, the role requires vetting web 4.0 tools and other instructional technologies to keep the university's offerings current and effective. The successful candidate will be expected to perform related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the university's teaching and learning goals.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and delivers face-to-face and online training in instructional technology, design, and software tools.
  • Provides support to faculty, staff, and administrators in developing content-specific instructional learning modules and multimedia components.
  • Supports the use of web conferencing, video conferencing, and online communication tools for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develops training content related to Blackboard and other instructional technologies.
  • Resolves help calls related to instructional technologies and teaching strategies.
  • Researches online and blended teaching and learning strategies and best practices.
  • Conducts needs assessments and peer reviews at the course and program level.
  • Vets web 4.0 tools and other instructional technologies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of teaching and learning principles, best practices, and current developments in pedagogy/andragogy and web design in higher education.
  • Knowledge of online and distance learning best practices.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs, particularly MS Office and web 4.0 tools.
  • Skill in using multimedia equipment and software.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree in a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar position or relevant internship.
