The Instructional Designer at Arizona State University (ASU) will play a crucial role in enhancing teaching and learning experiences by leveraging the latest educational technologies and sound pedagogical practices. Reporting to the Executive Directors of Learning Technology and The Learning Engineering Institute, this position is designed for a dynamic professional who is passionate about creating engaging and interactive instructional materials that cater to a diverse audience. The role involves the innovative application of artificial intelligence tools, both generative and non-generative, to enrich instructional content and pedagogy. The Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and subject matter experts to design and develop instructionally sound learning materials, utilizing a variety of content authoring tools and presentation applications. In addition to developing learning materials, the Instructional Designer will employ advanced technologies to enhance instruction and stay updated on emerging technologies and pedagogical trends. This includes providing training and support to faculty and staff on the effective use of instructional technologies and best practices in digital pedagogy. The role also involves assessing the effectiveness of learning materials and technologies, making necessary adjustments to improve learner outcomes, and participating in the evaluation and redesign of training programs to meet identified needs. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theories, and effective pedagogical practices, along with strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. This position is situated within the Learning Engineering Institute, which aims to transform learning environments to empower equitable student engagement and improve learning outcomes across diverse populations. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and subject matter experts to design and develop instructionally sound and engaging learning materials.
  • Employ advanced technologies to enhance instruction, including artificial intelligence tools for content creation and assessment.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and pedagogical trends to ensure the application of best practices in learning design.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff on the effective use of instructional technologies and best practices in digital pedagogy.
  • Develop and maintain resources such as tutorials, templates, and tools for instructional development.
  • Assess the effectiveness of learning materials and technologies, implementing changes as needed to improve learner outcomes.
  • Participate in the evaluation of training needs and the design/redesign of training programs to meet those needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of providing learning/instructional design and/or technology development services, or an equivalent combination of experience or education.
  • Deep knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theories, and effective pedagogical practices for diverse learning environments.
  • Skilled in the use of industry-leading technologies for the development of educational content and assessments.
  • Expertise in learning management systems and the ability to troubleshoot technology issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment, prioritizing tasks and collaborating with team members to meet project goals.
