About the position

As an Instructional Designer at Abbott, you will play a crucial role in the training team, focusing on instructional design, technical training, and multimedia development. This position is based onsite in Austin, TX, within the CRM Division, which is a global leader in Cardiac Rhythm Technologies. Your primary responsibility will be to lead or participate in all aspects of the industry-standard methodology for assessing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating instructional content. You will create a variety of instructional materials, including instructor-led courses (both virtual and in-person), eLearning modules, and other resources that simplify complex concepts and enhance information retention and knowledge transfer. In this role, you will collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization, ensuring that the instructional materials align with Abbott's strategy and brand. You will lead instructional and technical content analysis activities, understanding the business needs and user requirements prior to development. Your work will involve gathering knowledge from trainers and subject matter experts (SMEs) to facilitate efficient design and development processes. You will also be responsible for developing various instructional materials, such as on-demand modules, videos, PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, and activity handouts. Additionally, you will ensure design consistency and reusability of content, manage project timelines, and drive initiatives to ensure timely delivery of training materials. Your role will require you to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to the changing scope of the business while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all curricula through successful review processes. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead instructional and technical content analysis activities to understand business needs and user requirements prior to development.
  • Collaborate with trainers and SMEs to gather knowledge for efficient design and development, including scheduling and attending knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Develop in-person instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, and eLearning content, including on-demand modules, videos, PowerPoint presentations, course quizzes, and activity handouts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to generate instructional materials and standard templates for design and writing alignment.
  • Ensure design consistency, cross-functionality, and reusable content aligned with Abbott's strategy and brand.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods that maximize information retention and knowledge transfer.
  • Lead meetings with stakeholders, SMEs, and other relevant parties to discuss project progress and requirements.
  • Manage project timelines and drive initiatives to ensure on-time delivery of training materials.
  • Manage multiple priorities and adjust quickly to the changing scope of the business.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of all curricula by facilitating successful review processes as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field.
  • 2 or more years of relevant work experience, preferably as an instructional designer, educational technologist, eLearning developer, or related role delivering training content with demonstrated success.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of the required elements for different work products like instructor-led training content, point-of-need content, and general communications.
  • Experience using PowerPoint, Articulate 360, BioDigital, or similar design and development software.
  • Experience publishing eLearning to conform to SCORM standards.
  • Knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and team members.
  • Medical or lab knowledge.
