About the position

The Instructional Designer will support instructional design efforts within the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) department at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, focusing on creating engaging learning experiences across multiple campuses, particularly the Charlotte campus. This role involves applying the ADDIE model to analyze curriculum needs, design and develop learning activities, implement instructional products, and evaluate curriculum effectiveness. The position requires collaboration with faculty, staff, and leadership to enhance educational outcomes while promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Identify performance, skills, knowledge, and attitudinal gaps of a targeted audience and create learning experiences to address these gaps.
  • Design, develop, and deliver innovative, multi-modal learning solutions across campus environments.
  • Consult with faculty and staff on instructional design needs and manage the implementation and evaluation of curricula.
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts, working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop learning content.
  • Create learner-centered learning objectives and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.
  • Design assessment strategies in collaboration with the Assessment & Evaluation team to gauge the impact of development experiences.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure quality and efficiency in evaluation and assessment processes.
  • Attend and contribute to discussions in applicable curriculum committees and serve as a proctor for examinations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or a related field with 5 years of related instructional design experience.
  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven project management experience in learning management software and instructional design.
  • Experience with curriculum development and course design software such as MS Office Suite, Articulate, Camtasia, and Adobe products.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Good project management and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in medical or health professions field preferred.
  • Experience in problem-based, inquiry-based, and/or case-based curricula.
