About the position

The Instructional Designer at Montage Health plays a crucial role in enhancing end-user education across various applications. Reporting to the HIT Instructional Design and Communication Manager, this position is tasked with the development, maintenance, and delivery of engaging educational materials that are both accurate and informative. The Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with application analysts and users to ensure that the training provided is relevant and effective, focusing on mastering assigned applications and their workflows, both technical and operational. Key responsibilities include the development and maintenance of the Epic Training Environment, where the designer will create realistic training scenarios that reflect actual patient data. This role also involves teaching Credentialed Trainers and super users, ensuring they adhere to the course curriculum and possess the necessary knowledge of workflows and systems. The Instructional Designer will develop comprehensive training materials and assessments, including quizzes and exams, to measure knowledge transfer effectively. In addition to creating educational content, the Instructional Designer will lead training sessions for staff on Epic and non-Epic applications, coordinate closely with application analysts to develop accurate training materials, and provide ongoing support during software implementations and updates. The position requires participation in testing and workflow validation of applications before they are introduced into training and production environments. The designer will also oversee the implementation of online learning programs and maintain fluency in current trends and best practices in instructional design and learning technologies. The role emphasizes customer service and responsiveness, requiring excellent communication skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. The Instructional Designer must master HIT tools and applications while adhering to departmental and organizational policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Master assigned application(s) and applied workflows both technical and operational.
  • Develop, test, validate, and maintain the Epic Training Environment or other training environments.
  • Work with end users to create workflow-driven scenarios in training environments, e.g., realistic patient build of dynamic data in Epic Training environments.
  • Teach Credentialed Trainers and super users who will assist with classroom training for end users, monitoring their adherence to course curriculum and overall system knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of technical and operational workflows to properly develop training curriculum and related materials.
  • Develop and maintain course curriculum along with all training materials for the respective Epic application and non-Epic applications.
  • Design and develop modes of assessment, quizzes, exams, and other methods to measure effective knowledge transfer.
  • Conduct training as needed for staff utilizing Epic and non-Epic applications.
  • Lead educational efforts stemming from software implementations, upgrades, and updates.
  • Coordinate closely with application analysts to develop accurate material considering impacted end users' roles.
  • Provide support to end users for software implementations, updates, and new version releases, documenting project issues.
  • Participate in testing and workflow validation of assigned applications and modifications before implementation into training and production environments.
  • Assist application analysts in gathering end user requirements and evaluating workflows by working directly with end users.
  • Oversee implementation of online learning programs for assigned application areas.
  • Create engaging and accurate learning activities with compelling course content.
  • Maintain fluency in the field of online learning and assigned applications to apply trends and best practices in learning technologies and instructional design.
  • Ensure all classroom training and related materials adhere to current Montage Health's policies and procedures.
  • Follow team standard operating procedures, policies, and use organization standard templates.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in education program planning and instructional design.
  • Development of training materials.
  • Proficiency with SnagIt, Camtasia, Captivate, or other instructional design software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Presenting classroom material and coaching learners.
  • Assessment and evaluation methods of transfer of knowledge.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience in adult education program planning and instructional design.
  • Building, testing, and maintaining an Epic Training Environment.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and their applied use in an organization.
  • Familiarity with IT issue tracking software or 'ticketing' systems, e.g., ServiceNow.
  • Healthcare background, with RN preferred.
