About the position

The University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a dedicated and experienced Instructional Designer to join our team. This position is crucial for collaborating with subject matter experts to revise and redesign emergency response courses, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of educational quality and compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing online professional development programs for instructors, assisting with exam validation, and generating and disseminating certification binders. This role requires a strong understanding of contemporary adult education theory and the ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings to enhance the learning experience for emergency services professionals. In this position, the Instructional Designer will work closely with faculty and staff to create engaging and effective instructional materials that align with the needs of our diverse student population. The role involves utilizing various instructional design methodologies and technologies to develop course content that is not only informative but also interactive and accessible. The Instructional Designer will also play a key role in evaluating the effectiveness of instructional programs and making necessary adjustments based on feedback and assessment results. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to revise and redesign emergency response courses.
  • Develop online professional development programs for instructors.
  • Assist with exam validation and certification processes.
  • Ensure courses and certification binders are standards compliant.
  • Utilize contemporary adult education theory to enhance instructional design.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and make necessary adjustments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of experience in the development and design of training courses and instructional media, or three years as a Fire, Rescue, and/or EMS Instructor or Instructor Trainer.
  • Knowledge of contemporary adult education theory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, instructional design, or fire science.
  • Master's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in fire/emergency services.
  • Previous experience designing education programs for emergency services.
  • Familiarity with Canvas LMS, Microsoft Office Products, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Emergency Services Instructor certifications in multiple disciplines.
