About the position

The Instructional Designer (ID) at Austin Peay State University plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of online education. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Instructional Design, the ID collaborates with various stakeholders to facilitate course review processes and evaluate online course components against established quality standards and accessibility requirements. This position is integral to the Distance Education team, which is dedicated to improving online course offerings and ensuring that best practices are implemented throughout the instructional design process. In this hybrid role, the ID is responsible for coordinating training and professional development opportunities for faculty, aimed at improving the quality of online courses. The ID will work closely with other members of the instructional design team to manage multiple instructional design projects, oversee course review processes, and collect relevant data to inform decision-making. Effective communication with stakeholders is essential to promote collaboration and accountability within the team and across the university. The ID will also conduct thorough reviews of online and hybrid courses, providing constructive feedback to faculty to help them meet quality standards. Additionally, the ID will educate university stakeholders on compliance with current accessibility standards and regulations, ensuring that digital course materials and instructional technology are accessible to all students. Staying current with emerging trends in instructional design and technology is vital for this role, as it allows the ID to bring innovative solutions to the university's online education initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to faculty members on effective instructional design practices and instructional technology tools.
  • Conduct thorough online/hybrid course reviews to provide faculty feedback and assistance in meeting quality standards.
  • Facilitate course review processes and monitor data tracking.
  • Manage instructional design projects using a ticketing system.
  • Educate and assist university stakeholders to ensure digital course materials, multimedia projects, and instructional technology are compliant with current accessibility standards and regulations.
  • Assist the university in remaining in compliance with Distance Education regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with other Distance Education team members to ensure instructional technology settings have optimal functionality and usability for users.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in instructional design and technology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience designing and/or teaching online courses.
  • Experience assisting faculty with instructional technology integration.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and other instructional technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and technical skill levels.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to gain new skills as may be required by changing technology.
  • Ability to use a variety of software platforms, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Advanced critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis skills.
