About the position

The Learning & Development, Instructional Designer - Generalist will play a pivotal role in enhancing the learning experiences within the organization. This position involves collaborating closely with the Learning & Development team and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create effective learning materials and programs that align with the company's purpose and values. The Instructional Designer will be responsible for developing engaging educational content that not only meets the needs of the learners but also supports the overarching goals of Portillo's, including adherence to QSAC standards (quality, service, attitude, cleanliness) and fostering a positive Portillo's Experience for all Team Members. In this role, the Instructional Designer will work with various cross-functional teams to ensure that the learning and development programs are relevant and impactful. This includes designing and developing onboarding and ongoing training programs for Team Members across the restaurants, Restaurant Support Center, and Portillo's Food Service. The Instructional Designer will utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to cater to different learning styles, ensuring that all educational content is not only informative but also engaging and effective. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying learning needs and performance gaps within the organization. The Instructional Designer will conduct analyses, surveys, and interviews to gather insights into learner requirements, and will be responsible for creating content in multiple formats, including online eLearning modules, instructor-led courses, and performance support resources. Additionally, the role involves integrating technology tools and digital resources into the instructional design process to enhance the learning experience in a dynamic and evolving industry.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and build relationships with key stakeholders to identify learning needs and performance gaps within the organization.
  • Select appropriate instructional strategies and resources to support learning outcomes considering different learning styles.
  • Design and develop content and programs that support onboarding, orientation, and ongoing development of Portillo's Team Members.
  • Design, develop, and update curriculum, course outlines, and instructional plans that align with learning objectives and organizational goals.
  • Ensure accountability for project requirements, prioritization, and achieving timelines.
  • Understand Portillo's Leadership Traits and update current programs and materials to reflect standards as needed.
  • Conduct analysis, surveys, interviews, and observations to gather data and insights into learner requirements.
  • Develop content in multiple formats, including online eLearning, instructor-led courses, and performance support resources.
  • Develop and update interactive e-learning modules, videos, simulations, or other multimedia assets to engage learners.
  • Integrate technology tools and digital resources into instructional design to enhance learning experiences.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years instructional design experience focused on instructor-led, digital, and blended learning.
  • Ability to design with vision, promote culture, motivate, and facilitate positive sustainable change.
  • Advanced computer proficiency and technical aptitude in Microsoft Office Suite and various technology applications, including LMS and e-learning software.
  • Outstanding listening, verbal (presentation), team building, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience from ideation to implementation.
  • Experience with recording and editing digital media for blended learning solutions.
  • Experience with graphic design, micro-learnings, gamification, simulations, etc.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theories, and learning styles.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Adobe Captivate, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Advanced experience with e-learning authoring tools and Learning Management Systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to lead change and inspire others by influencing and collaborating across multiple departments.
  • A portfolio showcasing previous instructional design projects, including e-learning module samples and training materials.
