About the position

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking an Instructional Designer to enhance student learning pathways through effective design practices and accessibility. This role involves collaborating with faculty and staff to develop and deliver training and support for distance education, utilizing various educational technologies and the Learning Management System (LMS). The position aims to improve the quality of instruction and student experience across all teaching modalities, under the guidance of the Center for Teaching and Learning Instructional Design team.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with faculty and staff on best design practices and accessibility for student learning pathways.
  • Co-develop and deliver technical training and tutorials for distance faculty and students.
  • Support the creation, revision, and assessment of courses using instructional design norms and pedagogical theory.
  • Provide synchronous and asynchronous LMS/instructional technology support for faculty users.
  • Collaborate with CTL and UMS System staff on committees and troubleshoot educational technologies.
  • Assist in developing campus-specific job aides, videos, and web-based resources for faculty and students.
  • Update and maintain the student-facing support site and the Center for Teaching & Learning's WordPress site.
  • Develop multimedia content, including video and podcast production, for faculty and student interest groups.
  • Advocate for Universal Design for Learning and accessibility at the campus and system level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, instructional technology, multimedia design, or a related area.
  • Two years of recent experience with various computer software, including MS Office and Google applications.
  • Experience designing a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Experience with teaching and/or tutoring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, active listening skills, and time management skills.
  • Ability to learn various software applications quickly and understand their integration for teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of current in-person, hybrid, and digital pedagogy, and a basic understanding of UDL.
  • Ability to work positively with non-technical clients in a solution-oriented manner.
  • Ability to translate content into accessible multimedia formats.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of andragogy, adult learning, and/or CBE delivery principles.
  • Experience administering an LMS.
  • Experience applying learning theories and models in course design, such as Connectivism, Constructivism, ADDIE, Bloom's Taxonomy, and others.
  • Experience with platforms like Brightspace, Zoom, Kaltura, Adobe Creative Suite, and WordPress.
