About the position

The Instructional Designer position at Pasco-Hernando State College is a full-time role focused on enhancing academic functions through technology. The primary goal of this position is to provide consulting, training, and support services to faculty and staff, enabling them to effectively utilize technology in their instructional practices. The Instructional Designer will work closely with the E-Learning and Instructional Design team to develop technology-enhanced curriculum across various formats, including online, hybrid, blended, and face-to-face courses. This role involves consulting with faculty to identify and implement instructional technologies that improve learning outcomes, as well as analyzing and evaluating new technologies for potential applications in instruction. In addition to curriculum development, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing and implementing training programs for instructors on the use of computer-related technology. This includes creating demonstrations of instructional applications, mentoring faculty in course design, and evaluating current instructional technologies to provide recommendations for improvement. The position also requires collaboration with various departments to assist in the implementation of instructional technology and to conduct workshops that promote the use of new technologies. The Instructional Designer will play a key role in publicizing the services and resources of the E-Learning Department, as well as troubleshooting issues related to software and hardware. The position requires travel to assigned campuses to perform related duties, and the successful candidate will be expected to stay current with emerging educational technologies and integrate them into course development. Overall, this role is essential in advancing the mission of the E-Learning and Instructional Technology department within the college.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the E-Learning and Instructional Design team to develop technology-enhanced curriculum.
  • Consult with faculty and staff on instructional uses of technologies.
  • Analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate training programs for instructors.
  • Promote the implementation of technological innovations and create demonstrations of instructional applications.
  • Design, develop, implement, and coordinate the development of computerized media.
  • Assist with implementing and maintaining instructional technology systems.
  • Mentor faculty in the design and development of technology-enhanced courses.
  • Evaluate current instructional technologies and communicate recommendations.
  • Work with various departments regarding instructional technology implementations.
  • Assist with planning and conducting instructional technology workshops for faculty and staff.
  • Publicize and promote services, resources, and activities of the E-Learning Department.
  • Install, configure, and maintain software and courseware; troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Identify trends, gather and analyze data, and recommend standards for E-Learning development plans.
  • Use emerging educational technologies to develop alternative assessment strategies.
  • Design, develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate e-learning systems.
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop learning goals and objectives with assessments.
  • Travel to assigned campuses to perform all related duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional or educational technology, curriculum and instruction, or related field.
  • Knowledge of instructional design processes and curriculum development.
  • Familiarity with current technologies and instructional technologies.
  • Understanding of ADA compliance in the e-learning environment.
  • Proficiency in various computer hardware, peripherals, and operating systems.
  • Experience with computer software packages, including database management and graphics.
  • Knowledge of instructional design techniques and multimedia production.
  • Familiarity with distance learning technologies and web design.
  • Valid driver's license for travel to other campuses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with learning management systems in a higher education environment.
  • Experience in e-learning or technology-enhanced courses, including online and hybrid courses.
