About the position

The Instructional Designer position at ACS Professional Staffing involves developing and enhancing training programs for electrical apprentices and craftsmen in the high-voltage electrical transmission sector. The role requires collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create web-based training courses and ensure the effective delivery of educational content. This full-time, on-site position is based in Vancouver, Washington, and is essential for supporting the organization's training needs.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to access sensitive information and develop courses using established ISD processes.
  • Create or convert existing technical and safety courses into Web-based Training (WBT) courses using ToolBook and Adobe Captivate.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for special projects related to training efforts.
  • Create WBT testing/quizzes and ensure compatibility with HRMIS by encoding HTML script to quiz pages.
  • Record voiceovers for WBT courses following a written script using a computer sound recorder.
  • Use a Digital Video Camera to record training delivery and how-to videos.
  • Edit previous VHS tapes to digital format using Adobe Premier for WBT integration.
  • Interview and transcribe SME knowledge for course development using a tape recorder.
  • Update and upgrade WBT courses in a timely manner based on content owner feedback or software updates.
  • Troubleshoot online courses and correct issues as needed.
  • Write, develop, and maintain HTML/SharePoint web pages for the Technical Training website.
  • Create forms in SharePoint using Nintex and maintain existing InfoPath forms.
  • Create and maintain Technical Training Center websites and web pages, including workflows and forms.
  • Use SnagIt to generate catalogs of pictures and graphics for course creation.
  • Create animated pages within online courses using Adobe Flash.
  • Edit graphics using Adobe Photoshop and create drawings with Visio for embedding into WBT.

Requirements

  • Experience in instructional design and development of training materials.
  • Proficiency in using authoring tools such as ToolBook, Adobe Captivate, and Storyline 360.
  • Strong understanding of HTML and web development, particularly with SharePoint.
  • Ability to create and edit multimedia content, including video and audio recordings.
  • Familiarity with adult education principles and best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Flash.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems and training needs for electrical apprentices.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS).
