About the position

The Division of Continuing Education (CE) at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an Instructional Designer (ID) to join their Learning Design Group (LDG). This full-time position is essential for collaborating with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop engaging and accessible learning experiences that cater to diverse learners. The ID will utilize the current Learning Management System (LMS) and other educational technologies to enhance the quality of online courses, ensuring they align with the University's educational objectives and promote student success. The role involves providing ongoing technical support and training to faculty, assisting them in course development, and guiding them in effective online teaching strategies. The ID will also contribute to the continuous improvement of course content and instructional design strategies, ensuring that all learning materials are current and effective. In addition to instructional design responsibilities, the ID will be involved in resource coordination, helping to maintain and develop resources for the LDG website and staying updated on the latest learning technologies, including the use of Artificial Intelligence in education. The position requires occasional on-campus attendance for meetings and events, although remote work is available. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to analyze learning needs and determine instructional goals.
  • Design, develop, and deploy courses in the supported LMS and other learning environments.
  • Apply learning theories and instructional design processes to create engaging learning experiences.
  • Train faculty in course development and delivery using the current LMS.
  • Support faculty teaching courses developed in previous semesters.
  • Assist faculty in adapting content from previous courses as needed.
  • Troubleshoot online course issues related to the supported LMS.
  • Assist faculty with educational technologies to enhance the learning experience.
  • Contribute to course revisions and instructional design strategies for supported courses.
  • Assist with the review of courses and implement quality improvements based on program standards.
  • Support faculty with media assets and issues with media services.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of resources on the LDG website.
  • Stay current with learning and teaching technologies, including AI in Higher Education.
  • Develop resources for presentations and collaborations within Continuing Education and various CU Boulder departments.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Manager of the Learning Design Group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in instructional design.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to work with diverse technical abilities and personalities.
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service and collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proven experience in course and multimedia design.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty on educational technologies and provide training.
  • Understanding of digital media and its applications in learning.
  • Commitment to staying updated with technology, instructional design theories, and learning management systems.
  • Knowledge of Universal Design principles and Accessibility standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Instructional Technology or a related field.
  • Higher Education teaching experience.
  • Experience with online learning environments or course management systems, preferably Canvas.
  • Experience in course quality initiatives, including evaluations and redesigns.
  • Mastery in problem-solving with course design and technical issues.
  • Experience in interactive multimedia and web development.
  • Proficiency with Canvas LMS, Microsoft Office, Camtasia, and other software.
  • Experience providing academic or instructional technology user support.
  • Knowledge of Adult Learning Theories and Instructional Design Models.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as AI, Gamification, and Virtual Reality.
