About the position

The Instructional Designer position at the N.C. State Board of Elections is responsible for creating engaging and effective learning experiences tailored for diverse audiences, including state board staff and the general public. This role involves designing eLearning modules, workshops, and instructional materials using best practices from adult learning theories and design principles. The position is time-limited, funded through specific program funding until 2027, and requires collaboration with agency stakeholders to develop and deliver high-quality educational content.

Responsibilities

• Design learning objects including eLearning modules, PowerPoints, course assignments, and assessments.
• Use templates to create job aids, user guides, standard operating procedures, and other written materials.
• Analyze, update, and refine existing instructional content.
• Develop instructor's manuals, rubrics, and other teaching tools.
• Create modules and storyboards for instructional materials.
• Develop template designs for courses and write scripts for video and audio content.
• Conduct training needs analyses and collaborate with subject experts to develop and update course content.
• Advocate for and research best practices for adult learning strategies and methodologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution.
• Three years of training development experience in a progressive training or teaching role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with animation software such as Vyond.
• Experience with Articulate and design platforms like Adobe Creative Cloud products.
• Knowledge of adult learning models and visual design principles.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to translate needs into deliverables.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with video editing.
