About the position

The Instructional Designer at Catawba College plays a crucial role in enhancing the virtual learning environment by collaborating with faculty and staff to design, develop, implement, and evaluate online courses and programs. This position focuses on utilizing sound instructional design practices and emerging technologies to create engaging learning experiences for both academic and workforce development programs. The Instructional Designer will also manage the instructional development process, ensuring adherence to industry best practices while promoting the college's educational pillars.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional design expertise to full-time and adjunct faculty in the development and delivery of online and hybrid courses
  • Collaborate with faculty and SMEs in creating high-quality, engaging learning activities and compelling course content
  • Interface with internal and external constituents to understand concerns and offer creative, high-impact technology-enabled solutions
  • Assist in the formatting and presentation of online learning courses according to online standards and best practices
  • Maintain project documentation for course development and maintenance
  • Provide recommendations for online course refreshes
  • Create and maintain online student orientations and first-semester experience activities
  • Manage enrollments, completions, and records for trainings offered by Catawba Online
  • Create job aids and other training resources related to online teaching and instructional design
  • Expand access to online professional development opportunities for Catawba College employees
  • Advance the Catawba Online strategic plan by creating high-quality education and vibrant online student experiences
  • Promote quality in course-sharing by serving as a point of contact for Acadeum
  • Partner with campus departments to foster engagement of Catawba Online students through workshops and events
  • Represent Catawba Online in building professional coalitions with diverse constituencies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in distance education, instructional technology, instructional design, adult/continuing education, educational leadership, or related fields
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in online learning in an academic setting
  • Learning Management System experience required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of distance education methodologies
  • Demonstrated success of working in or with an academic environment
  • Working knowledge of modern distance education technologies
  • Understanding of outcome assessment and continuous quality improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preferred experience working with nontraditional learners and online programming
  • Experience with Quality Matters is preferred.
