About the position

The Instructional Media Designer at the University of Idaho will play a crucial role in the development of online instructional content and web materials across various platforms. This position is designed for a specialized graphic designer who will collaborate closely with distance educators and faculty to create engaging online courses that meet key learning objectives. The designer will be responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously, setting work schedules, and adjusting priorities as needed. This role requires a strong ability to provide visually appealing, on-brand design solutions while adhering to project timelines and briefs. The designer will also gather and implement feedback, ensuring that all technical requirements are met. Additionally, the position involves interpreting regulations and assessing institutional risks, product effectiveness, and user experience related to various technical implementations. The successful candidate will utilize their expertise in graphic design to produce a wide range of materials, including digital publications, program home pages, videos, and social media content. This role is essential in enhancing the online learning experience for students and ensuring that the instructional materials are both effective and engaging. The designer will need to demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and technical skills, particularly in HTML and CSS, to create high-quality online content that meets the needs of diverse learners.

Responsibilities

  • Create online instructional content and web materials in various formats including online courses, digital publications, and videos.
  • Collaborate with distance educators and faculty to design and develop engaging online courses.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, setting work schedules and modifying priorities as needed.
  • Provide visual creative solutions that adhere to brand guidelines and project timelines.
  • Gather and implement feedback from stakeholders to refine designs and ensure effectiveness.
  • Interpret regulations and assess institutional risks associated with technical implementations.
  • Evaluate product effectiveness and user experience related to instructional materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, instructional media design, or virtual technology and design; or six years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Two years of experience in the design field, including print, web, and digital design, with a solid understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator or similar design platforms.
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in creating online instructional content.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, online learning, or a related field.
  • Experience designing online courses in higher education.
  • Ability to make independent judgments regarding work schedules and design decisions.
  • Good attention to detail and basic video editing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Captivate and motion graphics.
