About the position

The Instructional Media Designer at the University of Idaho will play a crucial role in the development of online instructional content and web materials across various platforms. This position is designed for a specialized graphic designer who will collaborate closely with distance educators and faculty to create engaging online courses that meet key learning objectives. The designer will be responsible for producing a wide range of digital content, including online courses, digital publications, program home pages, videos, and social media posts. In this role, the incumbent will manage multiple projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. The designer will set a work schedule, modify priorities as needed, and ensure that all visual content adheres to the university's branding guidelines. This includes providing creative design solutions that align with the overall creative strategy and timelines outlined in project briefs. Additionally, the Instructional Media Designer will gather and implement feedback from stakeholders, ensuring that the final products meet the expectations of both educators and learners. The position also involves interpreting regulations and assessing institutional risks, product effectiveness, and user experience related to various technical implementations. This multifaceted role is essential for enhancing the quality of online education at the University of Idaho.

Responsibilities

  • Create online instructional content and web materials in various formats including courses, publications, and videos.
  • Collaborate with distance educators and faculty to design and develop engaging online courses.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and set work schedules accordingly.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a graphic designer or in a similar role focused on instructional design.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a variety of digital content, including online courses and multimedia projects.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software and tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
  • Experience with video editing software and social media content creation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with faculty and distance educators.
  • Understanding of instructional design principles and best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and online course development tools.
