About the position

The University of Chicago's Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics is seeking an Instructional Professor (Open Rank) specializing in microeconomics and its applied fields. This full-time, career-track teaching position is set to commence on or after July 1, 2025. The role involves teaching undergraduate and master's courses, mentoring students, and contributing to curriculum development and student recruitment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to six courses in the undergraduate and master's curriculum.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Organize student activities.
  • Advise and mentor MA students.
  • Contribute to recruitment and admissions of MA students.
  • Oversee and plan the curriculum under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Director of MA programs.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Economics by the start of the appointment.
  • Record of teaching courses in applied economics, particularly microeconomics.
  • Strong in-person, written, and virtual communication skills.
  • Ability to teach diverse audiences with varying levels of knowledge about economics.
