About the position

The Instructional Support Assistant at Stony Brook University plays a crucial role in providing administrative and office support within the Dental Care Clinic programs. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills to effectively interact with patients, students, faculty, and staff, ensuring a high standard of excellence in patient care and administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information to patients, students, faculty residents, and staff related to patient care.
  • Schedule, confirm, and cancel patient appointments.
  • Coordinate patient appointments with other clinics within the DCC.
  • Assist patients and provide prompt resolutions regarding appointments and other concerns.
  • Answer high-volume phone calls and triage patients to the appropriate party.
  • Provide excellent customer support for patients and family members.
  • Register patients and enter demographic information into the axiUm record accurately and completely.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the accuracy of patient information.
  • Ensure compliance regulations are met, including obtaining consent and regulatory signatures from patients or designees.
  • Maintain and require appropriate documents such as copies of photo ID and insurance documents.
  • Witness general consents, agreements, and acknowledgments.
  • Maintain all faxes and referrals from external providers.
  • Manage student schedules and rosters.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from a college or university program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and one (1) year of full-time customer service experience, or three (3) years of full-time administrative or customer service experience in lieu of a degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in various software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and dental terminology.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $43,697 plus $3,400 annual location pay.
  • Eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA.
