About the position

The Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) will play a crucial role in supporting the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) mission, which is integral to the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). This position requires a qualified individual to provide instructional design support to the SPATHE Task Lead and the Senior Instructional Systems Designer, focusing on enhancing educational support services with a particular emphasis on military studies. The ISD will be responsible for advising and assisting the Instructor of Record (IOR) in the JSOU course development process, ensuring adherence to current best practices in education. The ISD will collaborate closely with university faculty and staff to plan and facilitate workshops, conduct evaluations of these workshops, and produce comprehensive reports that include learning outcomes, scope, and sequence content. A significant part of the role involves building timelines and assessing the level of effort required for developing courses under review. The ISD will also assist the IOR in determining learning outcomes and task-learning relationships, which are essential for creating an effective educational program. In addition, the ISD will work with designated Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to utilize various educational theories and practices to design learning experiences tailored to student needs. This includes analyzing existing courses to enhance their effectiveness and instructional techniques, providing recommendations for course design and delivery, and creating course maps, pathway maps, and supporting storyboards. The ISD will also be responsible for scheduling in-progress reviews for designated courses, attending pilot courses as an evaluator, conducting after-action reviews, and writing post-pilot course reports. Furthermore, the ISD will assist in developing course assessment plans, syllabi, and other necessary documentation, ensuring that all course documentation is accurate and complete. The role requires the development of performance measures to assess instructional effectiveness in achieving course goals, making it a vital position within the educational framework of JSOU.
