About the position

The Instructional Technology Designer at Wayne State University's Law School is responsible for coordinating, planning, and overseeing the design, development, and implementation of both online and in-person instruction. This role involves providing technical expertise in instructional design, consulting with faculty to enhance teaching through technology, and developing innovative learning experiences that promote successful student outcomes. The position also includes conducting training workshops and supporting the administration of the learning management system.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, plans, and oversees the design, development, and implementation of online and in-person instruction.
  • Recommends instructional strategies in the development of instructional design objectives, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Provides technical expertise in the instructional design process and effective ways of delivering instruction for the Law School programs.
  • Serves as a resource person, liaison, and consultant to faculty, administration, and students.
  • Consults with faculty to facilitate informed use of technology to enhance teaching and online courses.
  • Works with faculty to create learning experiences that result in successful student outcomes using knowledge of course design, assessment methods, and teaching strategies.
  • Implements best practices in the use of emerging technology tools and applications, incorporating principles of accessibility and inclusion.
  • Coordinates, develops, and conducts training workshops; provides guidance on the instructional design process and resolves problems.
  • Supports learning management system administration and technical systems training documentation requirements as needed.
  • Interfaces with technical computing support personnel to determine software and hardware functionality needed for online instruction.
  • Researches, plans, designs, implements, and assesses Law School teaching and learning initiatives that encourage the use of emerging technology tools.
  • Collects data and prepares a variety of accurate reports; provides data support to the Assistant Dean and law school leadership as required.
  • Provides program support and leadership on various projects and law school initiatives with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university in education, computer science, business administration, instructional technology design, or related field.
  • Three or more years of instructional design experience.
  • Knowledge or experience with instructional design methodology or computer learning environments.
  • Knowledge of project management and project organization and analysis.
  • Excellent oral and/or written communication skills.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer-based multimedia authoring programs as well as word processing software for graphics, spreadsheet design, and desktop publishing.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and/or Audition; iMovie; Camtasia; Echo360; Zoom and/or Teams; and Canvas (or a comparable LMS).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in instructional design or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in at least two of the following areas: educational or faculty development, instructional design, instructional technologies in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with implementing online tools to assess course learning objectives.
