About the position

The Instructor, Accounting at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in various accounting courses, supporting student success, and contributing to the overall mission of the college. This role involves creating an optimal learning environment, developing curriculum, and engaging in professional development while fostering a diverse and inclusive educational atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach departmental courses including Financial and Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, and Auditing.
  • Develop learner-centered lesson plans and employ diverse teaching strategies.
  • Incorporate current technology into classroom and distance learning environments.
  • Create and maintain a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.
  • Update and revise curriculum to maintain relevance and effectiveness.
  • Conduct assessments of student learning outcomes and document results.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field.
  • Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, ensuring safety and security of materials.
  • Provide academic advising and support to promote student retention and success.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff across departments to enhance student success.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Accounting or a related field with 18 graduate hours in Accounting courses from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification, or the ability to attain one within 18 months of employment.
  • 3 years of recent professional experience in Accounting.
  • 3 years of post-secondary teaching or professional training experience in Accounting or Business.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree in Accounting or a related field with 18 graduate hours in Accounting courses.
  • Experience with distance learning or alternate instructional delivery systems.
  • Experience using enterprise application software, such as SAP.
  • Excel Certification (2013 or higher).
  • QuickBooks Certification.
