About the position

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is seeking a part-time Instructor for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) to join our Manufacturing, Construction & Transportation Pathway. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality education in CNC machining, including conventional machining and CNC machining set-up and operations, within a laboratory environment. The instructor will be responsible for preparing and delivering instruction, managing the classroom and laboratory, and developing curriculum to ensure course effectiveness. The position requires collaboration with advisory committees and participation in departmental and institutional meetings to promote the education and training program. The instructor will also engage in student recruitment and retention efforts, support student organizations, and maintain relationships with business and industry partners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC programming, with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience, including CAM experience. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level is preferred, as is journey-level status in Tool & Die or Machine Tool. The instructor will be expected to assess student performance, advise students on academic issues, and stay current in the field through professional development. This position is available to start in the fall semester, August 18, 2024, and will require flexibility in hours based on course load and departmental needs. The hourly rate for this position is $70, which includes compensation for office hours and preparation time.

Responsibilities

  • Teach conventional machining and CNC machining set-up and operations in a laboratory atmosphere.
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom and laboratory effectively.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program and participate in efforts to recruit and retain students.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification and continue professional development.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a Wisconsin Indentured apprenticeship in Machine Tool or Tool and Die; OR
  • Must have completed an Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in Computer Numerical Control or related field.
  • Minimum of five years full-time or equivalent (10,000 hours) of relevant work experience in CNC programming including CAM experience.
  • At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years; OR two years of teaching Numerical Control course work at the post-secondary level within the past five years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Journey level status in Tool & Die or Machine Tool is preferred.
  • Experience with Blackboard Ultra or other web-based course management systems.
  • Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems.
