About the position

The Instructor, Diesel Automotive position at Aims Community College is a full-time, tenure-track faculty role focused on teaching automotive service technology with an emphasis on diesel courses. The instructor will engage in scholarly activities, professional development, and service to the college while maintaining a commitment to the college's mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The role includes curriculum development, student advising, and participation in departmental activities, ensuring that students receive high-quality instruction and support in their educational journey.

Responsibilities

  • Teach automotive service technology courses with an emphasis on diesel.
  • Develop and modify curriculum to meet changing technology in the automotive field.
  • Advise new and returning students through occupational Certificates and AAS Degree Programs.
  • Assist the program director with daily operational tasks, including equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities for the department.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student records, including syllabi and grades.
  • Engage in professional development activities to stay current in the field.
  • Coordinate and participate in student activities and events, such as SkillsUSA and car shows.
  • Manage classroom and shop facilities, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
  • Implement the college's mission and goals in all teaching and departmental activities.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Diesel Service Technology or related field, or ability to obtain within 2.5 years.
  • Two years of experience in the automotive trades.
  • Knowledge of automotive service repair and instruction systems.
  • Ability to work with multiple students simultaneously in a stacked class schedule.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior automotive teaching experience in an accredited institution within the past 5 years.
  • Automotive diesel repair experience with an established facility for at least 3 years.
  • Experience in college/high school recruitment activities.
  • Extensive knowledge of automotive software and equipment such as Alldata and ProDemand.
  • Experience in auto shop management and administrative activities.
