About the position

Under supervision of the EMS Director, the EMS Instructor provides classroom/lab instruction. Instructor will provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations. Instructors are responsible for the quality of the educational program.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other staff, leads and program Director in development, implementation, and evaluation of the program curriculum
  • Responsible for the course content and flexible sections and content of the syllabi for all courses he/she is assigned
  • Follow the course description set forth in the common course library, integrating when appropriate, advisory committee recommendations, needs of the marketplace, writing for learning, and input from appropriate staff
  • Arrange for the acquisition and/or preparation of materials and equipment necessary to meet the course objectives
  • Maintain order of classrooms and labs
  • Ensure proper storage of materials and equipment at the end of each lab session
  • Prepare, distribute, and review with the student the first week of class a course syllabus which outlines clear and reasonable learning outcomes and expectations
  • Implement active learning techniques and use a variety of learner-centered instructional strategies designed to assist the learner in meeting the objectives of the course
  • Focus on student learning outcomes considering the needs and abilities of the students and the mission of the college
  • Be familiar with academic and social support which benefit diverse groups
  • Be supportive of students' educational goals and make reasonable provisions to accommodate their individual differences while maintaining the academic integrity of the college
  • Perform other assignments, consistent with his/her professional abilities, as assigned by the lead or program Director in carrying out the mission of the institution

Requirements

  • Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic credential and be in good standing
  • Associate degree in EMS, Business, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution or have an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess at least one additional Instructor Certification such as, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS-Experienced Provider, PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support), ITLS (International Trauma Life Support), etc.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in emergency science or related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Nationally Registered Paramedic
  • NC Level II EMS Instructor certification
  • At least four additional Instructor Certifications such as, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS-Experienced Provider, PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support), ITLS (International Trauma Life Support), etc.
