About the position
This position involves providing instruction in English Language Learning (ELL) at Indian Hills Community College, focusing on basic and intermediate levels, as well as Citizenship and Computer Literacy courses. The role is part-time, requiring 12-15 hours of work per week, and is based at the Indian Hills main campus in Ottumwa. The instructor will work under limited supervision to assist students from diverse backgrounds and help them achieve their educational goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with ELL coursework in various formats including explicit instruction, online learning, and individual instruction.
- Plan and participate in student orientation.
- Maintain and report accurate and timely student records.
- Provide staff development related to instruction, data entry, and assessment.
- Assist with completion of State of Iowa Adult Education program metrics to meet program goals.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.
- Organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, adjusting teaching techniques accordingly.
- Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Two years teaching experience required.
- Secondary Education Certification preferred.
- Ability to instruct students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to interact effectively with people on phone, via email, and in person.
- Ability to work with people is essential.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Exhibit an excellent work ethic and demonstrate a professional attitude.
- Possess excellent computer literacy skills.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to interpret and handle routine decisions related to departmental operations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions in detail with accuracy and efficiency.
