About the position

The Instructor for Environmental Humanities at the Middlebury School of the Environment (MSoE) will lead an introductory course focused on environmental humanities, emphasizing experiential learning and local resources in Monterey, California. This role also includes co-teaching an interdisciplinary course titled Environmental Analysis, which integrates various professional skill sets to address environmental challenges. The position requires full-time commitment during the program's operation, fostering a strong learning community among students and faculty through various activities and workshops.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one class in Environmental Humanities.
  • Co-teach one class titled Environmental Analysis.
  • Attend faculty meetings as requested.
  • Scout field sites for courses and other experiential opportunities.
  • Assist in the development of program orientation and other professional/leadership development training/workshops.
  • Attend school events, including curricular/co-curricular/extra-curricular activities throughout the duration of the program.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in the humanities or related field (a master's degree may be acceptable with significant professional experience).
  • Teaching experience at the college level and in experiential settings.
  • Knowledge of local natural resources and marine sites in/around Monterey, CA.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
