About the position

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is seeking a part-time Instructor for the Interior Design program within the Creative Arts, Design & Media Pathway. The instructor will be responsible for planning, developing, and revising a comprehensive program of instruction that includes both classroom and laboratory courses in interior design. The teaching assignments may encompass a variety of subjects, including architectural drawing, studio classes in commercial and residential design, textiles, furniture design, and color & light. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of IBC Codes and NKBA Standards, and will be proficient in using Autocad and Sketchup, with knowledge of Revit and Illustrator being a plus but not mandatory. The instructor will report to the Dean of Creative, Arts, Design & Media and will be expected to prepare and deliver instruction effectively, manage classroom and laboratory environments, and develop curriculum that meets the needs of students. Responsibilities also include assessing student performance, advising students on academic issues, and collaborating with the advisory committee in the program area. The instructor will participate in departmental and institutional meetings, promote the education/training program, and engage in efforts to recruit and retain students. Additionally, the instructor will support student organizations and activities, develop relationships with business and industry, and maintain professional development to stay current in the field. This position is part-time, with hours varying based on course load, and offers a competitive hourly rate of $70, which includes compensation for office hours and preparation time. Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject area with a concentration in Television, Digital Video, Media, eProduction, Radio, Film, Journalism, Communication, Theater, or related fields.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time or equivalent (6000 hours) experience as an Interior Designer.
  • At least one (1) year of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years or two (2) years of teaching Interior Design course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.
  • Must embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials in development and delivery of instruction.
  • Proficiency in Autocad and Sketchup is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Revit and Illustrator is desired but not necessary.
  • Experience with online information management systems like INFOnline or other similar systems.
  • Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course management systems.
  • Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems.
