About the position

Central Piedmont Community College is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Instructor in Interior Design to join our academic team. The primary focus of this role is to provide excellence in classroom instruction while demonstrating mastery of the subject matter. The instructor will be responsible for teaching a course load appropriate to their field, planning and organizing instruction to maximize student learning, and employing various teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs. The position requires staying current in the field through professional development and actively participating in relevant professional organizations and events. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will evaluate student learning outcomes, develop fair assessment methods, and maintain accurate records of student progress. The role also involves supporting college policies and procedures, including maintaining regular office hours for student advisement and consultation, and serving as a faculty advisor. Participation in college, division, and program activities is essential, including serving on committees, contributing to curriculum development, and engaging in marketing and recruitment efforts for the college. The instructor will work in a typical classroom, lab, clinical, and/or online learning environment, ensuring a supportive and effective educational experience for all students. This full-time faculty position is expected to contribute to the growth and enhancement of the college's mission and programs, aligning with the institution's goals and long-range plans.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge of the field of Interior Design.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Employ appropriate teaching strategies to communicate subject matter effectively.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Incorporate technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Establish meaningful learning outcomes for courses and programs.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades on time.
  • Post and maintain regular office hours for student advisement.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor within the college advisement system.
  • Participate in college, divisional, and program committees as assigned.
  • Contribute to program and division curriculum development processes.
  • Participate in marketing, recruitment, and retention of students.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • One year of industry-related work experience in the field or an industry-related certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or related field.
  • Teaching experience in a community college or university setting.
  • Two years of interior design professional experience.
  • Software experience with Adobe, Revit, AutoCAD, and Sketchup.
