Santa Barbara City College is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member positions in the Marine Diving Program to start in Fall 2024. In 2009, SBCC was designated as an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting our responsibility to support and serve the needs of our Latina/o/x students. Moreover, given our overall student population, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to join a department that is dedicated to the use of curriculum and pedagogy that shares SBCC's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse post-traditional student population. Responsibilities include teaching courses in commercial diving and marine related subject areas (e.g., SCUBA, helmet maintenance and repair, seamanship, rigging, navigation and small boat handling, petroleum technology, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), marine engine and compressor operations, marine electricity and electronics, hydraulics, and surface & underwater cutting & welding). The position is also responsible for department oversight including scheduling, budget management, faculty support and development, pedagogical operations, plant and equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, administrative liaison, and staff supervision. The preferred candidate will have training and experience in curriculum development and Student Learning Outcomes and their purpose. This position will act as the College Diving Safety Officer having purview over all diving activities under the auspices of Santa Barbara City College. Other responsibilities include contributions to department goals, maintenance of required office hours sufficient to meet student needs, full participation in departmental activities and responsibilities, participation in the governance of the college via committee assignments, and collaboration with representatives of the marine construction industry.
