About the position

The Mathematics Department of Westchester Community College is seeking an Instructor of Mathematics (Tenure Track). Instructional responsibilities for the position include teaching a full course load in developmental and/or credit-bearing courses spanning the full range of two-year mathematics offerings with additional hours each week dedicated to serving students in office hours. Summer teaching and overload opportunities are also available.

Responsibilities

• Assess student learning through demonstrated reflective practice, including assessment of student learning.
• Manage classes and learning environments by fostering a positive classroom-learning environment.
• Support learning through student engagement, incorporating pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or a closely related field with at least 15 graduate hours in mathematics.
• One year of college-level teaching experience is required.
• Evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Nice-to-haves

• At least two years of college-level teaching experience, ideally at a community college.
• Experience with classroom technology, student-centered pedagogy, and co-requisite teaching models.
• Backgrounds in Mathematics Education and Data Science education.
• Familiarity with teaching methods using Open Educational Resources.
