About the position

Chapman University is seeking a full-time non-tenure track Instructor or Artistic Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism for the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, effective August 2025. The role aims to enrich the faculty with a seasoned broadcast journalist who possesses both professional experience and academic knowledge, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of broadcast journalists.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses in both the fall and spring semesters, including introductory classes for freshmen and a capstone class for juniors and seniors that produces a weekly newscast seen live on local cable.
  • Serve as faculty advisor to undergraduate students within the Broadcast Journalism and Documentary major.
  • Participate in university and Dodge College committees and other assigned projects.
  • Maintain currency in the industry.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree or an MS with significant industry experience.
  • Significant experience working in national and/or local television newsrooms.
  • Significant experience on digital and social media platforms.
  • Produced significant work that has achieved national and industry recognition.
  • Multimedia journalism experience with the ability to teach storytelling skills such as videography, editing, social media, and cross-platform writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience.
  • Solid understanding of investigative journalism.
  • Solid understanding of production demands of field reporting and live newscast production.
