About the position

The Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, effective summer of 2025. The role focuses on teaching medical illustration, providing visual communication services, and engaging in administrative duties within the department. The position offers opportunities to work with state-of-the-art facilities and collaborate with faculty from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide course design and instruction, team teaching, curriculum development, and student advising (50%)
  • Support research, clinical work, and teaching by creating medical illustrations, animations, and 3D models (40%)
  • Serve on the Admissions Committee and other committees within the department and institution (10%)

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Medical Illustration
  • Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) by date of appointment or shortly thereafter
  • Experience in the design and creation of educational material for medicine and science
  • Experience in 2D illustration for print, presentations, and other digital formats
  • Experience in developing 2D and 3D animations
  • Experience in 3D modeling and sculpting (C4D and ZBrush preferred)

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching and curriculum building experience
  • Three years of professional experience
  • Production, project management, or client interaction experience
  • Experience in web design and development, interactive media
  • Strong interest in academic publication, grant writing, and performing research
  • Working knowledge or eagerness to learn new technologies (game development, AR/VR, AI, 3D printing)
