About the position

The College of Southern Nevada is seeking a full-time tenure track philosophy instructor to begin in the fall 2025 semester. The role primarily involves teaching core courses such as Introduction to Philosophy and Critical Thinking, with potential assignments in symbolic logic and upper-level courses. The instructor will engage in departmental activities, maintain office hours, and participate in professional development, all while supporting a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core philosophy courses including Introduction to Philosophy and Critical Thinking.
  • Possibly teach symbolic logic and upper-level courses in intermediate critical thinking and/or professional ethics.
  • Maintain a teaching load of 15 credit hours per semester (5/5 teaching load).
  • Hold five office hours per week for student support.
  • Participate in department and division meetings, college and department committees, and participatory governance activities.
  • Assume leadership roles within the department and institution.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities.

Requirements

  • M.A. in Philosophy from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience teaching college-level philosophy courses.
  • Minimum of one year (two semesters) of experience teaching critical thinking or equivalent courses at the college level within the last five years, or experience teaching Introduction to Philosophy at the college level within the last five years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience teaching philosophy at a regionally accredited community college.
  • Evidence of research in philosophy within the last five years, including conference presentations or publications.
  • Interest in participating in department, divisional, and cross-college committees and activities.
  • Experience working with or serving as faculty advisor for philosophy club or similar student organizations.
