About the position

The Instructor for the Summer Middle School program at Kamehameha Schools is responsible for creating and implementing a high-quality instructional program for Native Hawaiian learners. This part-time, temporary position involves guiding students through engaging learning experiences in various subjects, assessing their progress, and communicating effectively with students and parents. The role emphasizes cultural sensitivity and aims to foster the development of oiwi leaders within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans and instruct in designated subject areas to meet Summer Program goals.
  • Assess student progress and modify instruction to support student growth and achievement.
  • Grade and distribute mid and final report cards for students when applicable.
  • Model mutual respect and enforce summer school rules positively.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and the Summer School Administration Team regarding student progress and issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a directly related field.
  • Ability to teach in the subject area.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with similarly-aged children.
  • Familiarity with various online learning tools for training and support.

Nice-to-haves

  • Summer school or online teaching experience.
  • Experience with similarly aged children.
  • Previous teaching experience in the subject or grade level.
  • Experience with culturally based education.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
