About the position

The Part-Time Veterinary Assistant Program Instructor at Forsyth Technical Community College is responsible for leading college-level courses for Veterinary Assistant students. This role emphasizes creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment, utilizing effective teaching strategies, and fostering critical thinking to support student growth and success.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver engaging college-level courses for the Veterinary Assistant program.
• Create and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that align with program objectives and industry standards.
• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, problem solving, and active participation.
• Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and support to students throughout their program.
• Develop and administer appropriate assessments to evaluate student learning and progress.
• Maintain accurate student records and provide timely feedback on performance.
• Demonstrate and teach essential laboratory skills, including the proper use of microscopes and identification of parasites.
• Instruct students on proper small animal restraint methods, exam room preparation, medication handling, surgical procedures, and radiograph techniques.
• Demonstrate proficiency in using veterinary equipment, including IV catheters, surgical trays, and emergency crash carts.

Requirements

• Veterinary Assisting Certification or Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field.
• Experience working as a Veterinary Assistant or Technician in a clinical setting.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Certification as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, CVT, or LVT).
• Experience teaching in post-secondary education.
• Familiarity with learning management systems and online education platforms.
