About the position

The Instrument Control Technician plays a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of the City of San Mateo's wastewater treatment plant. This position involves installing, maintaining, calibrating, testing, and repairing various instrumentation and control equipment essential for wastewater collection and treatment systems. The technician will work closely with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), ensuring the efficient operation of the plant's advanced treatment processes.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, calibrate, test, and repair data acquisition, radio communications, and instrumentation and control equipment for wastewater systems.
  • Assist in the oversight of SCADA computer systems, PLCs, and CMMS.
  • Perform electrical, electronic, and mechanical work related to in-plant metering equipment and remote-controlled devices.
  • Operate, monitor, and control an advanced wastewater treatment system.
  • Maintain documentation and records for the SCADA system and instrumentation/control systems.
  • Prepare reports on technical issues as required.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures for documenting activities in instrumentation and control areas.
  • Write basic PLC programming for system modifications and process enhancements.
  • Install, troubleshoot, modify, and implement computer hardware and software applications.
  • Design, install, test, repair, calibrate, and maintain complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years' experience in automated instrumentation and control systems and/or maintenance and repair of industrial process control instrumentation.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent in computer science, computer information systems, electronics, instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
  • California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Grade II Certification in Electrical/Instrumentation, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Visual Basic, and local area network systems.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and process controls.
